A Time for Choosing (1964)
A Time for Choosing (27 October 1964) This was a televised speech in support of the presidential campaign of Senator Barry Goldwater; often referred to as "The Speech" which launched Reagan's career as a politician. Reagan gave other versions of this speech throughout the country, at various points during the Goldwater campaign.
You and I are told increasingly that we have to choose between a left or right, but I would like to suggest that there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down...
They say we offer simple answers to complex problems. Well, perhaps there is a simple answer — not an easy answer — but simple.
You and I have a rendezvous with destiny.
I have spent most of my life as a Democrat. I recently have seen fit to follow another course. I believe that the issues confronting us cross party lines.
As for the peace that we would preserve, I wonder who among us would like to approach the wife or mother whose husband or son has died in South Vietnam and ask them if they think this is a peace that should be maintained indefinitely. Do they mean peace, or do they mean we just want to be left in peace? There can be no real peace while one American is dying some place in the world for the rest of us. We're at war with the most dangerous enemy that has ever faced mankind in his long climb from the swamp to the stars, and it's been said if we lose that war, and in so doing lose this way of freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment that those who had the most to lose did the least to prevent its happening. Well I think it's time we ask ourselves if we still know the freedoms that were intended for us by the Founding Fathers.
If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on Earth. And this idea that government is beholden to the people, that it has no other source of power except to sovereign people, is still the newest and most unique idea in all the long history of man's relation to man. This is the issue of this election. Whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capital can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.
The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn't so.
You and I are told increasingly that we have to choose between a left or right, but I would like to suggest that there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down — up to a man's age-old dream; the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order — or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism, and regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would trade our freedom for security have embarked on this downward course.
Those who would trade our freedom for the soup kitchen of the welfare state have told us that they have a utopian solution of peace without victory. They call their policy "accommodation." And they say if we only avoid any direct confrontation with the enemy, he will forget his evil ways and learn to love us. All who oppose them are indicted as warmongers.
They say we offer simple answers to complex problems. Well, perhaps there is a simple answer — not an easy answer — but simple.
In some published transcripts or quotations of this speech a variant of this statement appears immediately before the quote by Churchill below, but was not said during Reagan's televised address on (27 October 1964). Though he did make variations of the speech elsewhere it is unclear exactly when and where he may have said used these precise words:
They say the world has become too complex for simple answers. They are wrong. There are no easy answers, but there are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right.
Later variant: For many years now, you and I have been shushed like children and told there are no simple answers to the complex problems which are beyond our comprehension. Well, the truth is, there are simple answers, they just are not easy ones.

Our Civil War

The Gettysburg Address
"Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, on this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived, and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting-place for those who here gave their lives, that that nation might live. But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate—we cannot hallow—this ground. This I feel is what is going on to day.... maybe the cause of our current WAR is different but it is testing whether this Nation under GOD can and will last the test.

2012 ELECTION
One thing I would like to say about 2012 elections, VOTE REPUBLICAN!!!
No mater what you think of what of the Republicans or what they have done since 2010 the choice is clear, this country will not last as a country with four more years of this president and this senate as a road block.
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me! I once crossed the line and voted for a democrat. The year was 1976 Nixon had disgraced the office and left un-elected vice president Gerald Ford as President. When election time came Ford had seen growing inflation and a recession during his tenure. We all were thinking some one else could fix the problems facing the country..... boy were we wrong!
Carter proved to be what I call an intellectual moron, let me explain what I mean by that. It is some one who is college educated, very intelligent to what the world thinks is intelligent, but doesn't have one ounce of common sense. This person is arrogant and condescending, and would not accept help from some one even if they needed it. They are pompous, narcissistic, and egotistical, they can not or will not think practicality or rationally to solve problems. They will even use failed policy that has been tried and failed over and over again. They think it just hasn't been tried by the right people or maybe it wasn't tried correctly. One plus one is always two, but think if tried correctly it should somehow equal three.
Yes I voted for him, I was a bit ashamed by Nixon and Ford and chose to vote for Carter. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me! As his term came to it's end and I saw clearly by his failures as president I would not be voting for him again. So I started looking at the Republican candidates, and one really stood out above the rest. Ronald Reagan, clearly won the primaries and was chosen to be the Republican nominee to run and be elected president, Ronaldus Magnus.
Then came "read my lips no new taxes" H.W. Bush, even with the Persian Gulf War victory in liberating Kuwait, the capture of Panamanian leader Manuel Noriega and the fall of dissolution of the USSR, one thing led to me not vote in 1992 his promise to not raise taxes.
Ronaldus Magnus' policies and direction made Clinton the Fornicator's presidency look good. Clinton once again was an intellectual moron, arrogant, condescending, pompous, narcissistic, and egotistical. He took credit for the things that were instituted by Reagan lower taxes which stimulated the economy, etc..
I did not vote for him by the way. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!
Then came the second Bush, some what like eating oatmeal without sweetener, I can do it but sweetener makes it a bit more palatable, you keep looking for that one raisin or lump of brown sugar hidden in the bowl. His presidency was somewhat like that. Then the 2008 Republican nomination McCain, to me another Bob Dole candidate... a nice guy with plenty of patriotic history but not charismatic enough to carry the presidential election.
I voted for both of the by the way. (i.e. Dole and McCain)
That brings me to where we are today this president hates America, hates entrepreneurs, hates individual freedom, hates capitalism. He loves communism, loves Marxism, loves socialism, loves fascism and loves to think that the wrong people have tried them in the wrong manner. One plus one is always two, but think if tried correctly it should somehow equal three. He like Carter and Clinton is an intellectual moron. He also is , arrogant, condescending, pompous, narcissistic, and egotistical. Unlike Clinton he blames everyone but himself for what is happening to this country, everything he promised as a candidate he has lied about.
Change you can believe in? Openness, transparency, lower unemployment.
VOTE REPUBLICAN!!!

CALIFORNIA DREAMIN'
I am turning 61 tomorrow January 6, 2011 and thinking back at the past years and all the different TV shows and music that I listened to, all the Cowboys and the Western singers. I was listening to my Highwayman CD on the way home from work today and was thinking about Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Jr., Roy Rogers, Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins, Eddy Arnold and the rest.
Thinking about TV shows like Sky King, My Friend Flicka, Rawhide, The Rifleman, Lassie, Ed Sullivan, The Wonderful World of Disney, Roy Rogers and many other Western shows. Cartoon shows we liked were Mighty Mouse, Donald Duck, Popeye, Tom and Jerry, Underdog, Tom Terrific, Foghorn Leghorn.
I remember the candies we had when I was a kid, the penny candies tootsie rolls, kits, root beer barrels, some things were to for a penny candy bars were generally a nickel each. My favorite candy bar with Walnut crush. My favorite nickel candy was walnettos.
I remember when I was a kid thinking about the new century. The year 2000 and thinking I be 50 years old at that time, it made me wonder if the year 2000 ever come now it's come and it's 11 years later, and not only do we have computers, but I have a program that I'm talking into a headset and the computers typing this all out for me how far we come and how far have good things in of our life been left behind our family, our friends and we had when we are growing up. Now they're so far away, yet I can still remember things that we did when I was a kid like going on picnics and going on vacations, to Lacrosse Wisconsin and Minnesota, catching fish and eating butter brickle ice cream.
I remember each year we would dig up about a quarter of our yard and plant the garden, so amazing, watching all the vegetables growing all the tomatoes, beats, carrots, radishes and corn.

When it rains.....
Some idiot goes around the barricaded road and gets stuck in the to deep waters.... the fire dept were checking to see if anyone was still in the car.... or had been washed down the steam. I asked what they charge and was told the tax payers foot the bill for their services....
